Cricut 29-0001 Review #2

Here is a second review on the Cricut 29-0001.

Review
This product is fantastic! If you’re looking for a personal die cut system, I wouldn’t bother with anything else on the market right now. Cricut 29-0001, is really the best. It is compact so it won’t take up unnecessary table space. It’s very light and has a comfortable handle for travelling if you need to take it to a friends place.

It is a bit of an investment, but honestly, it’s a better deal than many of the cheaper systems out there. It can cut each shape in 11 sizes from 1 inch to 5.5 inches. Most cartridges are around $90; compare that to quickutz & sizzix alphabets which retail for $150, can only cut one size, and take up a lot more storage space.

Blades are very easy to replace and the cutting mats seem to last longer than what the box suggests. You’ll get more life out of them by rotating the mat each time you cut and storing it with the plastic sheet to keep dust from accumulating on the sticky surface.

I’ve heard of people having difficulty cutting thicker cardstock with this machine, but I have been able to cut bazzil easily by setting the blade depth to 6 and the speed & pressure to their max settings.

I’ve used both the Cricut and Xyron Personal Cutting System extensively and would recommend the Cricut 29-0001.

Happy Crafting!

I personally think Cricut Expression 290611 is the one for me, but the price tag is a little expensive, however well worth it! Cricut 29-0001 is a very good alternative.

Review
I bought this product after reading a lot of reviews, everyone just seemed to be in love with it. I bought one and I played around with it and it does cut nice shapes, however, most of the shapes on the George cartridge are fonts. When I read some reviews they go into great detail on how this has up to 4500 different images, fonts, shapes, etc… What they fail to mention is that if you just buy the machine which comes with the George cartridge. The George cartridge is about fourty shapes, different fonts and shaded images or black out image or out lined image of the same shape or font. For the price of this thing I was expecting 4500 different images. You can obviously buy more cartridges at around $39.00 to $90.00. There’s no doubt that this machine is very very cool, but be prepared to fork over more money for cartridges. The mat loses its stickiness pretty fast as well. It takes a lot of tinkering to get the cut depth right, so use regular construction paper it worked pretty easily, but when I went to textured cardstock it didn’t cut deep enough. Scrapbooking is all about trial and error, and finding what works best for you. People suggest to use thin sheets of compostion board in this machine, I don’t know about that though. I’m an avid scrapbooker and I work with alot of mediums from paper crafting, upholstry, painting and wood work. Overall I’am not nearly as impressed as this as most people are, but only because it didn’t come with more cartridges. If you’re looking for an affordable cricut machine then I think Cricut 29-0001 is for you.

Happy Crafting!

For that extra help check out the design studio software missing manual, I wrote a review on that as well! (more…)
